Two Gold Medals at the Berliner Wine Trophy

Two wines. Two different expressions of Cyprus. Two Gold Medals.

At the Berliner Wine Trophy 2025, Nelion Winery was awarded two Gold Medals for wines from the 2024 harvest: 2RIZES Xynisteri Sur Lie 2024 and Nelion Rosé 2024.

For us, the significance of these awards goes beyond the medals themselves. They recognise two wines that reflect the direction Nelion has chosen: working with character, precision and respect for the identity of each variety.

2RIZES Xynisteri Sur Lie 2024

Xynisteri has always been central to our work.

For 2RIZES, grapes from two different vineyards are vinified separately before being brought together, allowing each site to contribute its own character to the final wine. The wine remains on its fine lees for five months in stainless steel, with regular bâtonnage adding texture and complexity while preserving the freshness and clarity of Xynisteri.

The Gold Medal for 2RIZES Xynisteri Sur Lie 2024 is an important recognition of our continuing exploration of Cyprus' most important white grape and of the philosophy behind Xynisteri Redefined.

Nelion Rosé 2024

Our second Gold Medal went to Nelion Rosé 2024, produced from Black Muscat.

Naturally aromatic but vinified as a dry, precise rosé, the wine combines the expressive character of the variety with freshness, minerality and balance. It is a style built around contrast: an intensely aromatic nose followed by a clean, dry and refreshing palate.

Receiving Gold for a wine with such a distinctive varietal identity is particularly meaningful to us. It shows that Cyprus can express itself internationally not by imitating established styles, but by giving its own grapes and vineyards a clear voice.

Recognition of a Direction

International medals are never the objective behind a wine. They are, however, valuable moments of recognition.

These two Gold Medals reinforce the path we continue to follow at Nelion: working closely with our vineyards, understanding our varieties more deeply with every harvest, and producing wines with a distinctly Cypriot identity.
